Mafra and Ericeira Tour from Sintra, Portugal
Spend magical time in Mafra, famous for its palace-convent, built by King João V in the eighteenth century! This glorious monument, built in a time of great royal prosperity due to the exploration of gold and diamonds in Brazil, constitutes a masterpiece of the Baroque Portuguese. Classified as a National Monument in 1910, it was a finalist in the election of the Seven Wonders of Portugal in 2007 and is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage. Thanks to its proximity to Lisbon, the municipality of Mafra has become attractive to people, so it is not surprising to see the increase in population and better commuting.
Our next destination will be a visit to the José Franco Village Museum, one of the most recognized museums in the country. From here, our tour continues to Ericeira, a fishing village of great importance to the region (which today is a famous surfing spot because of the area's waves). Ericeira is also the 1st world surfing reserve in Europe and 2nd in the world. With a private guide that will teach you the area's history and the architectural styles you'll see, it's a great way to get a deeper insight into this specific part of Portugal.
