You will notice Sevan from the distance, as it is the largest lake in the Caucasus and one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in the world. At the top of the peninsula you will see the only standing monastery - Sevanavank monastery (dating back to the 9th century) which replaced a pagan temple which once occupied this elevated site overlooking the lake.
