Sintra is not so hot, thanks to the high hills surrounding the city, densely overgrown with trees and shrubs. That is why the Portuguese nobility chose this place for the construction of their summer residences. In the 19th century, Sintra was very popular with the European elite and nobles, who erected luxurious and pompous mansions in the Romanesque style here.

Cascais and Estoril, or the coast north of Lisbon, have become some of Portugal's most famous cosmopolitan and tourist destinations since the end of the 19th century. King Don Luis I chose the local bay as a summer residence. The mild climate and an average of 260 sunny days a year served as one of the strongest arguments for the wealthiest families to build their palaces and mansions here after the royal couple. You should definitely take a walk here and feel the atmosphere of those times.
Throughout the route, amazing landscapes float: the valley of the Tagus River and the famous beaches of Estoril.
