Extensive route through the old center
The first attraction on the tour is the Dying Lion, you will hear its tearful history, and understand why the monument was not erected until 30 years after the memorable events.
On Schwanenplatz we admire a flock of white swans and take postcard pictures. Walk across the Kapelbrücke, the oldest wooden bridge in Europe: You'll find out why it had to be "shortened" and find a marker commemorating a fire in the last century.
In the Church of the Jesuits you'll hear about the formation of the order and admire the paintings on the ceiling. We'll peek into a medieval pharmacy and see a little devil peeking at the dwarves making a prescription.
From the dam, we'll walk down a narrow passageway over a fast stream; Lucerne was once a city on water, but today the river is hidden underground. Ancient frescoes on the houses will show you what life was like in those days and I will tell you what exhibits you can see in the Arsenal building, where the Historical Museum is located today.
Not just history
We'll also talk about everyday life in the city: the unusual festival, the musical seasons in the Concert Hall with its wonderful acoustics. I'll tell you why the townspeople care so much about the local ducklings, who even have a place in the tower of the old fortress. I'll advise you where to try the famous Swiss fondue and roquette dishes and other specialties. And I'll tell you which museums are definitely worth visiting in Lucerne.
