Rabat is the political capital of Morocco and the main residence of the King. It is the greenest city in Morocco, with restrained and elegant architecture.
We will start our visit with a tour of the Kasbah of Udayas with cozy blue-and-white streets and a typical Andalusian garden, in which flowers are fragrant all year round. We will drink a glass of mint tea with Moroccan sweets in a Moorish cafe with a beautiful view of the delta of the Buregreg River, and then climb to the observation deck, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and the ocean.
Next, we will get acquainted with the impressive Hassan Tower, which was supposed to become the minaret of the largest mosque in the world. Now only fragments of the wall and columns remain of the mosque. There is also the mausoleum of the founder of modern Morocco, King Mohammed the Fifth, richly decorated with mosaics. It is guarded by colorful royal guards, and inside it is supposed to observe reverent silence. And now let's go to the mysterious Shell fortress, on the territory of which there was the oldest settlement in this region.
The Phoenicians and Romans left their traces here, and in the XIV century. The sultan of the Merinid dynasty built a royal necropolis and powerful defensive walls on this site, which have survived to this day. If there is time left, we will be able to look into the territory of the Royal Palace and admire its powerful entrance gates (entrance to the palace is prohibited for outsiders).
