Tangier is a port city at the intersection of seas and continents, which has long attracted and inspired artists. Eugene Delacroix, Henri Matisse, Paul Bowles, Tennessee Williams, Jean Genet, Yves Saint Laurent are just some of those who succumbed to his charm.
This is a city of contrasts, which has its own brilliant and dark sides. A city of luxurious palaces and villas and ruined hopes of illegal migrants. Its charm is not in the sights, but rather in the special bohemian atmosphere and breathtaking views of the azure Mediterranean Sea.
We will walk along the intertwining streets of the Medina through the Gran Socco Square in Casbuso by the ancient palace of the sultans of the XVII century, which was turned into a museum. On the way we will visit the Museum of the American Diplomatic Mission, which is interesting not only for its unique history, but also for the beautiful architecture of the building. In 1777, Morocco became the first country to recognize the new US state, and in 1821, the Moroccan Sultan granted the States the building of the diplomatic mission in Tangier, which became the oldest US diplomatic institution in the world.
From the Kasbah Square you can get to a magnificent observation deck with views of Gibraltar and the Spanish coast. Walking along the coast, you will find yourself in the Marchand quarter and see the Mendub Palace, owned by billionaire Forbes, who arranged luxurious celebrations there with a view of the ocean. Now it houses a collection of 115 thousand toy soldiers of Forbes. Let's have a glass of mint tea in the bohemian cafe "Hafa", which has preserved the spirit of the 20s of the last century. Many writers and musicians loved to visit here, including W. Burroughs, P. Bowles, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones…
