Cape Town Winelands Private Tour, South Africa

In comfort and at your own pace, you will explore the Cape Winelands with experts, beginning the tour at Khayelitsha, the biggest township in the City of Cape Town. Translated as 'our new home' from the local Xhosa language, it houses multi-million dollar film studios, where moviesMad Max, Bloodshot and Pirates of the Caribbean were made. You will visit Stellenbosch that is located northeast of Cape Town at the foot of the rugged Jonkershoek mountains. This quaint town is the capital of South African wine and features old English oaks, national monument buildings, numerous shops and restaurants, museums and African craft markets. With your guide, you will explore the historical center by foot, and then carry on to another winery for your second tasting.

Driving for just a few minutes, you will get to Lanzerac, a well-appointed and elegant country hotel in the beautiful Jonkershoek valley. It is also a historic homestead that dates back to 1830 and has vineyards and a winery, producing excellent red and white wine. Lanzerac is known to be the first winery to bottle a native South African wine called Pinotage. You will be assisted by a knowledgeable sommelier and taste the local wine paired with chocolate. Continuing your journey to Tokara, you will move on to a modern grand estate that sits on the Simonsberg mountain and presents beautiful views of the Banhoek valley and Table Mountain. There, you will have the pleasure of tasting some of the best red and white wine in the country, as well as olive oil that is grown and produced at Tokara. Among other things, our tour will include lunch at Franschhoek, a small town with Colonial whitewashed buildings and vibrant streets, a tasting of South Africa's version of champagne atHaute Cabrièreand a visit tothe Groot Drakenstein correctional facility where Nelson Mandela made his famous long walk to freedom.
