2-hour Horse Riding Tour from Mývatn

From mid-April till October

You will begin the horseback riding trip along Lake Mývatn, located in the north of Iceland in an area of active volcanism, not far from Krafla volcano.

Please note: It is preferable that all tours are booked in advance (necessary for tours in April and May).

The lake is 2,300 years old and was created by a large basaltic lava eruption. The surrounding wetlands and the lake itself provide a habitat for a number of water birds, including 15 different species of ducks (the largest number in Europe), making it a perfect location for birdwatching. On the tour, you will observe the surrounding landscape that is dominated by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and pseudocraters. You will also take an old lava road that had been used in the past by locals as a transportation route.
